: Intake for ZZZ

I have got a ZZZ completely stock. I have just bought a Holley 650 double pumper and now I would like to put a better intake on it. I was planning on an RPM air gap but would like something a little better. My dad used to have an Edelbrock Scorpion on his 350 and told me I should get one of these. After searching the web I found out the RPM range for these is 4500 to 7500. I do not think this will be the right combo.
What do you guys think.
Also you may want to consider that I will probably be putting roller rockers in a little later.
Thanks

The air gap is a good match for the ZZ motors. I've been contemplating that change for mine too. The one your dad told you about is great for a different motor build- you'll never see the benefit unless you pick a different cam and valve train setup to get into the rpm range indicated.

if you get the Scorpion intake, you'll also need a set of camel backs and a 3/4 race cam to see the full benefits from it's installation. and you'll have to jack the rear of the car up with a combination of air shocks and shackles, and find a nice used set of 14X8 Keystones or Cragar SS rims with 2" of backspacing and mount some G60 Polyglas tires on it. you'll also need a set of theose "bigfoot" gas and brake pedal covers and some green and/or orange shag carpeting and an 8 track to crank up the E.L.O. as you cruise down the boulevard.
oh, wait, it's not 1975 anymore. totally disregard this post..
just get a modern RPM intake and be happy with it..

Good suggestion. I can't stop laughing :D I like my AirGap. Most of the ZZ/GM crate motor builds that I have seen are using the AirGap. I assume that the motor has "vortec" type heads? If not, you could go with one of those Edelbrock ES or EPS, errrr, something like that. Can't remember the name.

the ZZ engines use the old Corvette L98 aluminum heads, which use the regular old intake pattern but do not have a heat crossover. so the cheap Edelbrock intakes like the 7101 or 7104 (Q-jet RPM) or whatever the regular airgap part number is will work.

Thanks for the suggestions. What about a Victor Jr. I know this is really close to the Scorpion but Edelbrock says the rpm range is a little lower. If it won't work than I guess I will just go with an RPM air gap. Also, besides the RPM, what other intakes would be a good match?
Thanks,
Kyle

I hope I haven't mislead you guys on just edelbrock intakes. All I am looking for is an intake (doesn't matter which brand) with raised runners, and that looks bitchin'. That is why I was asking about the Scorpion and the Victor Jr. They look really cool. But I know you can't just buy what looks cool for a motor, it has also got to work good. When I look for an intake what RPM range should I be looking for? If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank again,
Kyle

I understand what you're saying. I'm of the mentality that one should go with the original intake guys (ie. Edelbrock) and the original performance carb guys (ie. Holley) when building your motors. But that's just me. Perhaps someone can recommend another manufacturer for the specs that you are looking for. Take a look at www.paceparts.com (http://www.paceparts.com) for some GMPP products.

If you are using the original ZZZ intake, I doubt you will see much difference in HP with a new intake. The intake on the ZZZ was modeled on the original Z-28 high rise and is supposed to be a very good intake.

However, I will concede the point that it does not look like a performance intake and I will admit that I removed the stock intake on my ZZ3 and replaced it with a Holley 300-36 (very similar to E-brock RPM) very soon after I bought the motor. I saw/felt no difference in performance between the two intakes.
