Since this year we have a emissions test starting ( #%*&ing tree-huggers)
I may have to get rid of my 91 and get something else.
I found a 74 Luv truck, I was wondering if you guys think its a good/ok deal?

My 91 camaro has 220,000 and probably wont pass
the smog test, and I built that 383 for it last year and dont want to
go thru all the hassle/$$$ of stickin it in the car if it wont/may not
pass it. So at the local car show I saw a 74 Luv truck for $4000, I'm
gonna look at it friday in the day light and drive it. Its got a mild 350,
th350, Dana 44 - 373posi, pretty straight with a cheapy paint job, pretty
good interior, front disc drakes and rallys - lots of good stuff!
But the things I dont need are: wheel tubs in bed, fuel cell,
holley blue pump, a NOS plate system - But I can sell those things.

So this may end up being my daily driver by the end of the year, but I'd
stick my 383 in it, with a 200-4R and a Vintage AC system, a stock fuel
tank, a mech. fuel pump, and narrow the wheel tubs - move them out to
about the stock location. (it is minitubbed) and quiet exhaust. I think
it could be a good daily driver thats useful and fun - 11s would be easy!
It would be a sleeper.

I could sell off the stuff I dont need out of it, and the 350 & TH350 that
in it - so I'd only have around $3500 in it. Is this a good deal???
Whats your opinion?

A Luv truck with a 383 sounds like either a death machine or a lot of fun to drive. I guess it depends on your mindset. You could probably find an old S10 or Toyota and by the 350 swap kit for less money. Since you already have a 383 waiting to go in.

The Luv already has a cheap 350 in it - so its already set up.
And it needs to be a 25yr+ car to not go thru the smog test,
so the Luv is a good choice.
What do you guys thing of this deal in general?
Is it a OK deal for the money?

Sounds kind of pricy to me. Seems like you could spend a little more and get you an old Nova or Camaro. But it all boils down to what you want, plus it would be easier if I seen the truck in person.

If the engine had over $2K invested in it then it might be worth it. You never know, you might be able to go offer the guy $3K for it. It doesn't hurt to try making a low offer. Worst thing he can say is "No". If you could get it for $3K then it may be a fair deal. To be honest with you, I haven't studied any pricing on the LUV trucks so I really don't know what they are going for these days. If you have seen a bunch of them selling for what this guy is asking then I think that may be your best way to judge if the asking price is fair.

Good Luck and keep us posted....
