Which one would be better? I've heard two different stories about both. Some people tell me that a high volt coil and a good module will do. Others say that MSD is the way to go. Have you added any of the following and seen any difference?

Edelbrock Performer Intake
Summit 48,000 volt Coil

Do a search I was having many problems That I thought were ign related. Bottom line the Hei system was not the problem and It was working. I guess what I'm tryin to say;If you present system works good dont mess with it . you wont see any performance gains, and you cant beat the reliability and servicability of HEI.

Try performance distributors DUI, a form of HEI, they curve it specifically for your engine, and it doesnt have the cost like MSD does, and MSD doesnt make more power. www.performancedistributors.com (http://www.performancedistributors.com)

Street-HEI, strip-MSD. If you miss a shift it's nice to have a limiter.

I recently went from HEI to MSD and it was like a completely new engine. My 355cid loved it.The same guys I was running neck and neck with, I then started pulling away at the line. You wont regret the MSD.JUST DO IT!

Things I observed when I added an MSD box to my HEI setup in my 355:

-Improved throttle response, throughout the rev range
-Car seemed to pick up low-end torque
-cleaner burning plugs
-better fuel economy (2 mpg)

This might sound kind of funny but i use both. I have an HEI distributer with the msd coil and ignition moduel and I use a 6al box. I just installed the 6Al and i have to say it is WELL worth the money spent the car fires up immeaditely and runs very smooth. You can tell the differnce right away. I disconected it and ran with out it for a day and hooked it back up it is like a totaly differn't car. I LOVE my MSD

There is a test in the installation manual for determining whether your MSD is working. For grins, do the test. The spark generated is HUGE - at least 3-4 times larger (wider) than the spark with a stock ignition.

Like 69CamaroRacer, I use both. It is a completely stock GM distributor that I shimmed and put a bronze gear on for my roller cam. On the top side it is a stock replacement cap, coil, and rotor. The HEI module has been removed and the stock magnetic pick-up is used to trigger an MSD Digital 6, which is a very nice piece BTW. See sig. for performance.
