I managed to improve/correct some of the issues on my rebuilt craigslist tranny as mentioned i some of my previous posts. A replaced governor corrected my late 2-3 shift problem I had finally. The one issue that still remains is it will not consistently go back to 1st gear (90% of the time) on its own at a stop sign/light, therefore accelerating out of second gear. It usually works correctly when I creep up to a stop reeeal slow from 50-100 feet. It will always work when I put the shifter into neutral and back into drive. It will also go into first (once I start rolling) and I flutter the gas pedal to kick down to 1st. Is there another adjustment I overlooked or something else to look at? The downshift cable and modulator vacuum appear to be correct. All upshifts are near perfect now. Any advise is appreciated.

Did you install a NEW governor?
Governor lands should be .799-.800" diameter.
You have a worn governor or case bore.

Jake, no I installed the one from the previous tranny that ran fine. What are the odds of 2 bad governors in a row?

I thought I would post the solution to the problem I had. It turns out there was some "contamination" in the radiator and cooling lines from the last tranny that bit the dust. I pulled the governor out (2nd time) and the valve did not move freely. I then dropped the pan and found a table spoon + of fine metal particles and more in the filter. After cleaning it and replacing with a new filter I added an inline filter on the return cooling line I bought from a local tranny shop. They also rebuilt the goveror for me while I waited (filter and rebuild = $20). Now the transmission runs perfectly. Sometimes it takes a few times to learn how to do something.
