: Shortened Parking Brake Cables?

I remember seeing a thread where someone paid big bux for shortened parking cables then found out he could've shortened his stock cable. Something about it being lefthand threaded?

Any leads to where I can get the cables or ways to make the stock LT1 cables work with a 67 Camaro would be appreciated.

Would it be a safety issue if I cut one end of the cable to the correct length and use a small brass stop from Control Cables, Inc?

Thanks

If your cables that need to be shortened are in good shape, and you know how long you want the "cables" presuming the housings are a workable length you can have the shop I work for in the Brentwood/Antioch area shorten them. We do it all the time by tig welding new ends on the cable, and they work awesome. Let me know if your interested and I can pm you the info. Bear in mind, the better the cable, the better the result.. in any event I can put you in touch with my boss for a more detailed explanation and possible cost, and it's not big bux either :noway:..

if the cable casings are the correct length but the cable it self is too long, why not just shorten the cable ?

in the '80's i installed a Trans-Am disc rear end in my '55 Chevy and needed to shorten my e brake cable. i cut the cable and drilled a hole in piece of a bolt (cut the bolt down to length too) and slid it onto the cable and had it brazed on. i never had a problem with it coming loose or breaking.

i don't know if this is helpful to you or not, just thought i'd pass it on...

best of luck to you,

JR

[edit] for clarification i shortened the rear cable, not the front ;)

You cant shorten the main cable from the foot brake..this messes up the distances out of the end and the loaded spring drivel
Shorten the big loop cable...
There are some big loads on this...there are companies (well in NZ) who make /shorten brake cables.... And who can re built the main cable to, restoring and keepin the orginal sleeve.

I had to shorten my rear cable to work with the 79 seville rear brakes. I cut the cable, took it down to True Value and they crimped on a "cable stop". It worked for a while but then the cable pulled out of the cable stop which was made of aluminum or some kind of light alloy. So...I got another cable stop, crimped it on, set my welder on a low temp and welded a little on the end of the cable so it couldn't pull out...been working for a couple of years now.

I was thinking of cutting it and get a small brass stop from here:

Maybe take it to a machine shop have them tack it a little.
