I am finishing up my project. I went to the alignment shop today and my front end was all OK, it was the rear that was 1/2 in out. I need to move the driver side to the back 1/4 and the pass side 1/4 forward. The car is a 1967 rally sport with a 12 bolt and Cal trac's. I always thought the center bolt held the rear end square in the car. I have not done anything with the rear end this winter i did a moor and 5 speed upgrade. The guy before me put the Caltrac's on. Someone did tell me last summer that they thought i was dog tracking a little. Any help of info would help a ton.
Thanks ahead of time. Mike

It's time to take some frame and rear end measurments. If you search this site you will find specs.

i think there is a little play in the front spring perch mounts so they can be moved a little bit.
if not, welcome to the world of 40 year old cars- cars from a time when it was "good enough" if the car was within 1" of being square.
if you ever want to get really freaked out, pop out the back seat and start digging seam sealer out of the gaps between the body panels- i found gaps of over 1/4" between panels in my 71 Nova. but, oddly enough, the rear end was within 1/8" of being square with the body, which was also within 1/8".

He has a problem..no way a half inch was within spec even in 69. That's a country mile in suspension.

Sorry, but a Zone Rep told me flat out that +/- a 1/2" was fine back then. And This young punk kid back then was getting in his face!!

My car is off like a "finger and a 1/2" in front and maybe two fingers in the rear towards the pass side and always has been this way.

I now finger all the cars I can at shows and to check. You just put a couple of fingers right at the tops of the wheel wells between the tire roll/corner and repeat walking around the car and you will see what I'm talkng about!

I did move mine over a schosh more towards center when I did my S/F and S/F/C's install front and rear.

But if a finger/5/8" or 11/16" bit fits fine in the front S/F mounting check holes that are at the drop of the firewall, you are good to go by me.

He is talking front to back not side to side.

My cars rearend is off 3/8" . Its always driven fine since I bought it at 16 years old some 27 years ago...wow that was a while back I just thought about!! Anyway I never knew the car was off till I did the frame off. The key is ...How does it drive?, and do you have any odd tire wear problems?,if not dont worry about it, these cars had a wide tolerance. You want another example...my front frame assembly was off 3/4" total...3/8 forward pass. side.,3/8 rearward drivers side, never knew that either. Look in the assembly manual at all the +/- tolerances they had on everything...its eye opening

Yet another reason to put a 4 link in the car so you can dial it in perfect.

Only if you have the money and don't care if your old car will never be stock again once it's cut up!

Replacing sheet metal is one thing, but different S/F's, front/rear is different to me.

From memory the factory tollerance was 3/16 or 1/8"

If it has had a crash in its history then it could be out....
get the front alignment done, the computer will tell u how much the rear is out
If out of spec a tweak on the hydrolics will fix it.
