Purchased a set of 69 SS wheels from a TC member and after restoring them, found out the lug holes are wallowed too much for the lug nuts to tighten up properly. Can I purchase washers, bushings or oversized lug nuts of some sort that will look okay or am I out of luck? Guess I should've purchased a set of reproductions wheels :(

I dont think I would be wishing purchasing a set of repop wheels. From what I have heard its a nightmare to get any straight ones. I was researching buying a set of 15x6 rally wheels for my 66 vette and after what I was reading decided to hunt down original corvette DC wheels and glad I did. I also had a 69 chevelle that I chased and chased a vibration at 50mph and it was wheel vintiques wheels on the car and were not true!!

I think the lug nut holes are a problem, not sure of any fix for that... Sorry!

wow a TC member? i'm shocked. over the years i have purchased a few on ebay. they have always been perfect. just mount, balance and go. i wouldn't buy repops, i would continue my search for nice originals.

The issue is the lug nuts hit the drum/disc before they tighten to the wheel. Either there is a way to weld new metal to rim (not sure if this can be done!) or grind off some of the bottom of the nuts to provide more clearance against the drum/disc. I have not done either of these, but that is the best ideas I have.

I think welding the holes and having a machinist recut the seats would be possible, but expensive.

Cutting the lug nuts might work???

But what bothers me is that if you loose a wheel at speed it could be a disaster....You and your passengers are at risk, then if thats not bad enough you could total your ride.

If the TC member told you the lug nut holes were good and they were not, you should talk to him about it.

I have bought several things off of TC with no problems. Maybe he didn't realize they were in bad shape!?!? Just wondering is there a flared washer out there that could could take up the slack, at least until I can track down some wheels.

Can you post some pics of the worst and best holes? I'm going to keep thinking, and go through the wheel repair numbers I have. I have a fairly local place that does alloy wheel repairs, but I don't know if they do steel.
