: Rear End Swap 4th gen into 3rd gen

I currently have a 92 camaro rs with a 305tbi (pretty weak but thats changing soon enough) with a well built 700r4 tranny now i currently have drum breaks and an open diff with what im assuming a 3.08 rear 80 mph= 2,250 rpm im currently able to get me hands on a 96 firebirds 3.55 posi withs disk breaks now im currently building a 355cid aprox 400hp smallblock in hopes of getting me car into the low 12.0s but my cars seen 99% of its life on the streets now my question is will the rearend replace me current on with out modifications and if any are needed what will i have to do and second with the ammount of power im planning to make will i blow the 7.5'' rear up i now im not making huge power but it is a little more than the 170hp stock and ideas suggestions or know how is greatly appreciated

The rear will bolt in but is a different width, you will need new wheels.

is it a wider or shorter with and by how much? just woundering if i can achieve it with wheel spacers

The 4th gen is 1.5" wider on each side...meaning your wheels will stick out.


Also 4th gens did not have 3.55's The stick cars had 3.42's which were the max gear available.
