Does the fender have to be removed at all? I'm contemplating whether I should get the car painted first or install AC first.

What kinda setup are you going to run? The hoses between the fender and fenderwell so they are hidden or over the top of fenderwell. Need more info on how you want to install it.

They make different kits.

I didn't know they had different kits. My alternator is on the passenger side so I'll probably not hide the hoses between the fender.

What is well worth it? Hiding the lines?

I put a Vintage Air in my 68 and I had to pull the fender to get the old box off and block off the holes (they say this is optional but I couldn't). I would at least block the heater fan hole before painting as you can easily mess up new paint removing the fender. The rest of the install can be done before or after painting, it went really smooth.

I removed the fender on the driver side to hide the vacuum pump for my booster and I made some huge chips. So I know what you're talking about. Good thing it's not painted yet. I have all the old heater components off aready. Think I'll get the kit and install it halfway so he can paint my firewall as well.

Do yourself a favor, remove the fender.

I am in the process of looking into getting a Vintage kit. Is this something that can be installed in the driveway under a carport? It seems like the hardest part would be cutting the holes for the driver and passenger air vents and the center vent. Of course, getting the old heater box off looks kind of involved as well. My alternator is on the passenger side so my compressor will mount above my P.S. pump. I can't wait. Between the Tko-600 being installed next week and the Vintage air, the car should be a dream to drive, no matter how hot or cold it is.

The instructions for Clasic Auto Air (http://www.bought4less.com/bought4less/prod-ff80808116f363070116f36a8f5204bd.html) is here (http://www.classicautoair.com/manuals/1-1055Manual.pdf), most likely very similar installation.

I didnt know holes needed to be cut. Are you talking about holes for a non-AC car?
My alternator is also on the passenger side. I'm looking for brackets to mount my alternator on the driver side that will work with my power steering as well. Any suggestions? I think it looks cleaner having the compressor on the passenger side instead of routing lines all the way to the driver side.

Check out the March mid-mount serpentine belt conversion. Compressor and alt. are both on the passenger side.

We sell mail order and install a lot of these systems. Lots and lots for Camaro's. It can be done at home with basic tools and abilities. The complete passenger fender does not have to be removed, but the inner fender needs to be ALMOST removed to get to the original box.

Feel to call with any questions and to save some money on your VA kit.
