I put these Alu-Brake Drums on my Ride about a year ago but have been plagued with a slight rear vibration at approx 30mph which I attribute to the possibility that the drums may be out of balance; anyway, they are being stubborn and I’m having problems getting them to release from the axel. It’s not like they are rusted but have applied Rust Check. I believe the radius may be peened from the torque of bolting my steel Vette Rally Rims on. You can see by the PIC, the contact Rim to Drum Radius is verily close the Axel.

I tried running the car in 2nd and Reverse then slamming the brakes with hopes they would break free but to no avail and used that BIG Hammer to Hit the Drum from under the car. My next approach is to run the car in 1st and deliberately apply brake pressure hoping to build enough heat to expand the Alu-Drums so that they can Beak Free of the Axel.

Sish! - This should have been a 10 minute job. If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it - Thanks ;o)

Finally after another 1/2 hour with a couple of nuts on the studs banging and revving the engine up in gear then hitting the brakes they finally came loose ;o)

My neighours just had to come around to check out what all the &%%^$ and racket was about - LOL - I'll wash out the Pad Dust, apply Rush Check, Brush on New Thread Compound and put my Steel Drums back on and see if that 30mph vibration is gone.

Now that you got them off, take a little emery cloth to the center hole so you don't have the problem again.....

Well replacing the Alu-Drums with my Steel ones did take about 80% of the Vibration or what I would call Tire Bounce from the rear at around 30mph; however rather then a Balance problem, I'm suspecting either a Tire or Rim may be slightly out of round as with the thicker Alu-Drum Mounting plates extended the wheel enough to exaggerate the condition; but, the ride is pretty darn smooth at 50mph.

Typical Hot Rodding situation when running big tires and wide rims - LOL
