All,

I cracked a piece off of a single lifter (#4 exhaust) on my SBC when I did not properly seat a pushrod. It bent the pushrod but the engine seems to be fine overall.

I have now purchased a single replacement lifter and am ready to install it.

My question: what is the procedure for replacing a single lifter? Do I need to soak it in oil and then break it in as I would a new, complete set of lifters and a new cam? (2,000 to 2,500 rpm for 20 minutes) Or can I just put it in, adjust the lash and move on?

The lifters and Lunati Voodoo cam have about 1,200 miles on them...

Thanks,
Brent

Use a pushrod and depress the plunger; if easy, it has no oil inside as it would have to conform to HazMat transportation. Submerge lifter in oil and use pushrod and pump the lifter full, no air bubbles. Replace it and continue normally.

Not to answer my own question but...

The cam break-in procedure is to ensure that oil is splashed on the cam during the initial run. The cam is already broken in...is there any reason I need to ensure oil splash on the cam for a single lifter?

You're welcome. Splashing the lifter after replacement would not hurt.

If it is just the pushrod seat that is damaged, you could allways pull the clip and just change the pushrod seat into the old lifter body. That way you would not have to worry that the lifter is not mated to that lobe.
You could also put some cam lube on that lobe and new lifter bottom just to be sure if you do change the lifter.
