Today I'm going to start the rear disc brake install on my 67 and I'm wondering how hard its going to be to remove the rear axles with the differential still in the car. I've never worked on a differential before and was curious if there are any tips or tricks that'd help make this an easier job. Also how much gear oil am I going to need including the posi additive to refill everything once Im done. Any particular brands that I should use?

Also the rear disc brake kit is the Summit brand, which is actuall made by SSBC. If anyone could help out I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Axles are easy, take the pin out of the carrier, push axles toward the carrier and pull out the c-clips ( I use one of those little magnets on a stick the size of a pen) then slide out the axles. Put the pin back in until your ready to re-install the axles. Also try not to drag the axles on the bearings when pulling them or installing. I use the Jegs brand posi-additive and I love the stuff

Thanks. With my wifes help I got the axles out and back in. C-clips are in and now Im having a problem putting the axle retaining pin back in. Looking through the hole it came out of it looks like some of the holes its supposed to go through arent lining up. Axles are pulled back out so I know they arent in the way. I have a posi unit...dont know if thats it or not. Any suggestions

I think you might have roatated the axles a bit causing the spider gears to move out of palce slightly. Just turn em till it lined up again. Assuming the thrust bearing are still in place on the spiders.
