Hi everyone I recently picked up a 69 rag top and need help with the brake system. There seems to be a lot of praise for Matts Bowties and the Right Stuff and I'm having lots of problems so here's my query. I purchased a complete system from Matts (power disc/drum set up). The car has an original system on it I simply wanted to replace everything new for safety and cosmetics. I have recieved the wrong set up once and sent it back. I have recieved the wrong brake lines (68 front set up instead of 69.) Now I am at the booster. The pedal rod is longer by itself than the factory set up, rod and clevis combined. My brake pedal only has one hole (worked with factory set up) the instructions say to drill another hole. This still doesn't seem like it will give me enough clearance to attach to the pedal. Also the booster came with a foam insert around the rod. Should this not have a rubber boot over it along with a jam nut?
I have over $200.00 just in freight invested here on top of the 6 weeks the cars been apart, Do you think they sent me the wrong booster?
Does anyone have a good contact and number for Right Stuff so I can talk to them direct.

Call Matt's, ask for Kim, and tell her you need your invoice number and Bear's direct number at Right Stuff. I had the number but I think it was on a box I threw away this weekend.

They also sent me the wrong kit but they paid for return shipping. Then the right kit came (assembled fronts) which came assembled backwards and with a broken flex line. They sent a new flex line but I had to disassemble and reassemble the kit that I paid extra to have assembled.

People praise their customer service because they eventually get things straightened out. To me though, the best customer service is the kind you never have to contact.

Foam around the booster is fine on the firewall side. The returning pedal stroke needs to get air back in, so it gets it from the interior compartment around the rod opening. Sealing up up will cause it to not work.

You have to use the lower hole (drill one) or your brakes will be too touchy!

Thanks for the # I am going to try Bear direct I think Kim is going to slash if she gears from me again.
I agree with you Steiner my business would tank if we operated like this. When I ordered this I specified 3 times that I wanted the factory replacement and not the jobber kit.Any ways Kim didn't recall the conversation so I got stuck with all the return freight along with the original freight and freight on the new correct??? kit...pretty disappointed.
She did go good on the freight on the correct lines.
I measured the length of the pedal rod factory to replacement; Factory 3.5" Replacement 5.25". That is a huge difference is it not?
I appreciate the help guys, I am very frustrated with this.

Just thought I would mention this. I ordered one of Matt's 69 Camaro kits, the kit consisted of Power Booster,Master Cylinder,Proportioning Valve & Bracket,Distribution Block & Bracket and the three Lines to connect all of the components .
It's a nice repro setup for a reasonable price.
Here's the one thing that i have encountered so far: The front port on the distribution block is tapped out to a larger thread size VS an original block.
The reason I found this problem is,I have a complete Stainless Steel Line setup that i have had for years.(This Line set's fitting's are correctly sized.)
When I started to replace the lines in Matt's kit with my Stainless lines the line that goes from the front of the distribution block to the side of the proportioning valve did not fit.
To make a long story short ,Bear from Right Stuff told me there was a maufacturing problem with the distribution block ,and he would send me a new line in Stainless Steel. FREE OF CHARGE!!
The line came two days later, problem solved!
Bear from Right Stuff is :thumbsup: He should be able to help you.

I was able to get in touch with Right Stuff. They informed me the pedal rod is universal and to cut it to fit. I took 3/4 of an inch off and it fit right in. Problem solved.
The repro booster has the delco moraine stamped right side and up. Looking at the one I took off the car it is supposed to be left side and upside down. Does anyone know who is reproducing these correctly?

It can be either way, just depends how it's put together. The front lid comes off, you can rotate it 180 degrees to have the label the other direction. Many original cars I have owned didn't even have a stamp on the booster(yes, orig booster in place), I've also seen many stamps that are stamped uneven to the point that half the stamp is not there(partial stamp). There is only one manufactuer of this item that I know of and that is MBM, Pirate Jack is their retail name. The boosters are manufactured over seas and I believe assembled in North Carolina.

Kevin. there is a plastic boot that goes over the rod end of the booster to retain the foam and seal to the firewall. It is open on the end so the booster can breath. I took some time out and checked with the local resto guys because the booster I took off had one on it.
Stamp - It's funny you get into these things and you find out what is correct isn't always correct ie: always heard the Delco Moraine stamp was upside down.

Hey Todd. I just got my booster mounted yesterday. My old manual rod was 5.25" and was connected to the upper hole in the brake pedal. My pedal already had a lower hole in it and the rod of the 11" Delco knock-off booster in my kit fit fine when I used it.

I had to pull the brake pedal out to get the clevis adjusted right. There wasn't enough wiggle room to get it spun out to the right point and then back on the arm.

I also noticed that because of the angle that the booster sits on the firewall, you pretty much have to use the lower hole that is just above the curve in the brake pedal. If you have just a master cylinder mounted to the firewall, it sits flat and the rod just goes straight back and into the upper hole.
