View Full Version : Avis rentals...
DjD May 24th, 09, 10:12 AM Not able to find a 5th gen to test drive at your local Chevy dealership? Give Avis a call, I just got an e-mail from a friend who is visiting in MN and WI this weekend and she got an upgrade to the new Camaro.
Check it out... they are offering both SS and LT http://www.avis.com/car-rental/content/carGuide.ac?navId=T4M01S00
Skeeter55 May 24th, 09, 11:14 AM Thats awesome.... Ill go rent one and bring it home, tell the wife look what i bought...
yellow69RS May 24th, 09, 11:17 AM I was looking into this as well. What could be better than a weekend road test? I located one at O'Hare airport (I think) that would be the closest one to me. I hope I can get one in San Diego at the end of July when I'm there for a family reunion.

DRCAM May 26th, 09, 09:05 AM Thanks to the post by Dennis, my wife and I rented one from Avis rental car at the Nashville, TN airport. We did a one day, unlimited mile. They have 5 in their fleet. We had a silver ice, 2 LT, auto. We put over 300 miles on it on Memorial Day, dirving it all over the Nashville area. Overall, My wife and I were very impressed. Like others have noted, the side vision is challenging, to say the least! Had numerous solicitations to race, especially from the mustang folk. I can't begin to tell you how many times we saw dropped jaws, heard, "Is that the new camaro?", or witnessed "near accidents" from people completely distracted by the car. You are definitely not going unnoticed in this car any time soon. As far as performace, comfort, and handling. no real dissapointments. The v6 did well, but there is a definite lag in the auto when you punch it while driving. Again, it was a great way to get a real feel for the car. Thanks again for posting the info Dennis!
kz1000ltd May 26th, 09, 10:11 AM Just my luck, none in the DFW area........unless the website is mistaken. I'm going to call them directly to make sure! Thanks for the tip Dennis!!!!

If you find one, let me know...I just checked all of the Dallas area ones...nada!
But I did find it funny how the Chevy Aveo base rate at Valley View mall was 39.99, but at DFW airport it was 119.99! I know Airports demand mark-ups, but DAMN!
clwilcox33 May 27th, 09, 11:34 AM First one to find one in the Dallas area needs to call the rest of us. I'll be waiting for a ride in it ;)

zlek131 May 27th, 09, 01:29 PM Just tried to rent one from KC, MO for my July vacation in MO but no luck. I guess the camaro is not available in KC, MO at this time! :(

Do you think it's worth it?
Only because it's being treated as a speciality car and is a novility right now James. What was the price for the V6 version?
68 Ragtop Jun 1st, 09, 12:24 PM Only because it's being treated as a speciality car and is a novility right now James. What was the price for the V6 version?
There was no option for V6.
It appears they only have the V8 SS, or maybe the V6's were already reserved so that's why they didn't show as an option.
Has anyone else gotten a rental quote?
I think I am going to reserve an Avis small car, and maybe upgrade if there is "deal" at the counter when I get there.
My friend rented a 6, I e-mailed her asking what it cost her...
yellow69RS Jun 1st, 09, 03:10 PM It's 99.95 a day for a LT (V6) at O'Hare International plus taxes and fees of course. A one day rental with out GPS but the insurance is approx $155.00. This is the part that has me wondering
Rate Rules:

Return rental by Monday
Checkout before 3PM Sunday

kz1000ltd Jun 1st, 09, 03:28 PM 1500 bucks for 11 days? Is that what I'm reading? NOT WORTH IT! Put that money toward a down payment and buy one, you'll be happy with it, I promise ya'! :)
68 Ragtop Jun 2nd, 09, 12:12 AM 1500 bucks for 11 days? Is that what I'm reading? NOT WORTH IT! Put that money toward a down payment and buy one, you'll be happy with it, I promise ya'! :)
No, your not reading it right. For airport rentals, there is always a mandatory huge tax and surcharge.
For 11 days, the cost is 1,895.75 without extra insurance and 2,287.30 with all extra insurance!
snkycapt Jun 2nd, 09, 08:50 AM Here are some pics I posted of the Camaro a co-worker rented from NYC

kencar69 Jun 2nd, 09, 10:58 AM Check your regular car policy, you usually don't need any insurance or even extra insurance when you rent a car. At least I don't with my policy.
My friend paid $187 a day tax and all included w/unlimited mileage for a V6...
lortsie Jun 10th, 09, 04:47 PM I found a couple links with more details;

Looks like us westies are out of luck (unless you consider Colorado West).
nashcar Jun 10th, 09, 08:46 PM I flew into Syracuse Monday, Avis has about 10 there.
Steiner Jun 11th, 09, 12:27 AM Company rate, baby. I still use the one from my last job. Use it and give the guy in the lot a 20 and you can drive a Caddy for a month for $740 with full damage waiver and unlimited mileage.
I've let a few friends use it. Too bad it's only good for National. It usually chops 50% off the rate and gives you full damage waiver and unlimited miles.
Looks like the cheapest way to drive a new Camaro is buy one and then loose your job so GM will pay for it if they're still doing that.
HwyStarJoe Jun 12th, 09, 12:15 PM The Rochester International Airport Avis has only SS models..... $193 for 24 hours. That's with GPS and everything else declined.
Might just have to take a little 'test drive' one of these days. Either that or beg and plead for a test drive of that orange SS I saw at the dealership yesterday.
Melrose RS Jun 12th, 09, 02:31 PM Just flew into Boston this morning. I saw 2 each, red, black and yellow at the AVIS rental place close to the airport.
DjD Jun 12th, 09, 02:38 PM So even though the 5th gen is a bit expensive to rent just to go from point A to B and back when you need transportation, what did it cost you the last time you went to a pro sporting event, concert or an amusment park? If you can get an SS for 24 hrs and run a couple tanks of gas through it on back roads or take it out on a road course or the drag strip (if they will allow it) and not exceed the cost of other entertainment it might not seem so expensive.
HwyStarJoe Jun 13th, 09, 10:28 AM Dennis, I don't even want to think about what we spent on the last two concerts we went to. Each of them alone was far more than the cost to rent an SS for 24 hours of fun, as opposed to standing on your feet for 3 hours.
:)
