Hi All,
I couldn't figure out were to post this, but I thought some of the performance people may have blower cars with the same issues.
I've been at the car thing for a long time, left and got pulled right back in...this time with a prostreet car...It's still a project, but most of the major parts are there. The question I have is...How do I get this thing on the road with a blower sticking through the hood? The car hasn't been registered yet. I've been looking into a few different options, but am more confused now then I was . Please help. I just want to tune the car for a nice weekend drive, but don't want to get greef for it..is there a Pro-Street registration in PA?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the site Willy,
Your best bet would be to talk to a few guys in your area with blowers and see how they were able to do it. Car shows will be your best bet to find street driven blown cars. Since I am in California the laws are different but, I have not had any issue with driving a blown car on the street here or in Nevada. We don't have vehicle "inspections" here like many of the places back east.

You might want to ask in the Pro Street section too http://www.camaros.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71

There are a few guys with blown pro streeters in there too. It's kind of hard to find the section but, it is under the Pro Touring section in small print "Pro Street". Several guys from back east hang out in there and have blowers.

you should have no problems, there is no "pro street" registration in pa, you are basically limited to an antique car.. they have a street rod/hot rod registration, but IIRC it is for cars below something like 1947

since your car is what im assuming a 1st gen camaro, you wont have to get it emissions tested at time of registration, and im not aware of any laws or anything that states you cant have a blower sticking out of the hood

This will probably be your best bet. Quite a few guys in my car club have done this.

hi, i live in s/e pa and have a pro street car but not a blower. i think you are looking for a Collectable tag that pa has. like a s/r or classic tag, you pay for the tag one time and its considered permanent. you will need to take pics of the car and apply for the tag. if i were you, i would send pics w/o the blower as i don't think they are technically legal in pa (obstructs view) go to a notary and ask for the details. good luck!

Should be no problem, i know 2 guys here in Pittsburgh with blowers taller than skyscrapers sticking out of the hoods on their 69 camaros and theres no problem.

For Pa inspection they only allow you to have the engine sticking out 4" above the hood.

That is what I have on my camaro, Antique tags. But I am in Texas. I never had any issues with a car with a blower motor in it.

Just apply for a antique tag.

Hi Lou,
I actually work right in Paoli, I live in Eagleville. Not far from you. This car has never been on the road. It's sorta a barn find. It was built back in the late 80's then the guy that owned it just wrenched on it when he got bored...The engine was put together in the last few years, One of the guys at Liberty Speed helped him out with it. Then the car sat again. I bought some parts off the guy in the mid nineties and he was still messing with it as he found time. When I found it, it was in his garage and it was covered with VCR tapes from his wedding and honeymoon, a house plant...his clothes. his wife randomly ripped a handful of wires out of the car... apparently his wife had some sorta issue with his girlfreind...LOL :beers:
...One more thing fellas...I mentioned the deal was to good to pass up. Big block roller motor...TCI Turbo 400...Ford nine inch...All with NO miles on it...the only thing wrong with the car is the body...it's a 67 Nova. My plan is to get a nice 68-69 camaro roller when the funds are there. I was in no shape to be jumping back into the car thing especially at this level, but again, the deal was to good to let go.

The fact that it's a 67 Nova makes it even cooler to me. One thing about this site it is Camaro based but, you will find there are many of us with different types of cars. I have owned 6 Camaros over the years and as of right now I don't even own a Camaro and I'm not sure I want another one ever. I have a 1970 Nova and a 1961 Buick Skylark (both blown). The knowledge on this website and the way it's run is top notch. I would love to see pictures if/when you get a chance.

Based on PA inspection, here is what I know....

If you want antique or classic plates, you need to have it stock appearing. I've seen them rejected for the wrong wheels, chrome mirrors etc. No way will they pass a blower through the hood. They rejected mine for the wrong wheels before.

Antique & classics are permanent plates. Antique does not require inspection, but the classic still needs inspected technically, but most people I know do not get them inspected.

As for street rod plates... those are intended for cars with incorrect engines & are basically a yearly plate with safety inspection required, but no emissions. They still do not give you any additional leniency over regular plates... except for emissions (not that an old car would require this anyway). Basically you are registering the car as a reconstructed vehicle, but with-non stock parts. Not sure I would consider this option as I would not want a car to be technically reconstructed, as it appears that it could have been totalled based on this documentation.

Personally I would try the classic or antique if you can get pictures of the car in stock appearing form... ie. no blower & normal wheels etc.
If you can take a hint..... photoshop is your friend.
This is not to say that the police will not stop you & revoke your plates.

If you do get pictures, they require all 4 sides, with the windows rolled up (rediculous, but ask me how I know).

Another option is get a post office box (or friend/relative) in Ohio & register it there. I know many that do this to avoid the inspection headaches.

Hope this helps.

......Nothin' wrong with a Nova:noway:. If/when I decide to find another Pro Street car, a '66 or '67 Nova is what I will get:yes:. I like the "boxy" style body line of those years. Compliment that with 2 ft. wide rubber under the rearend and you get somethin' like this.........................

Since you already have a mostly complete car with somewhat "fresh" major components, I would finish the Nova then if you still want a Camaro.......sell the Nova. Just my 2 cents!!!!!

Is Liberty Speed Shop still around? I never delt with them, always with Shaws Speed & auto parts. (now in collegville). And yes I forgot to mention in my earlier post that you would have to get a reconstructed title for the Collectable tag.

It will never fly with a blower sticking out of the hood if you plan to get antique plates, but you could find someone with the same year and close to the same color car and you that car for the "picture purpose car" ;) seen it done many many times! Also for antique plates you need front back and side pictures.
