yes, get the key and check the resistance, buy a resistor that matches the key and unhook the VATS/BCM connector and solder the resistor in

If it is good , yes it's possible to switch the lock cylinder. Requires a special tool or two but those can be rented from local Auto Zone.

No, the resistor does not come out. You have to use the proper key blank with the same resistance as the old key for the new key. That is if you are leaving your VATS intact and operational. If you defeated the VATS, then a plain key will do. no need for the resistor/chip.

fwiw...The resistance of the key matches the BCM (Body Control Module). The column and switch have nothing to do with it other than providing the circuitry for the key resistor to the module.....Jb
