Is it a Q-Jet carb.??
They have an inline sintered brass filter behind the fuel line/carb. connection that sometimes plugs solid.
I threw mine away the first chance I got and installed a Hastings 3/8" inline "can" fuel filter b/c you can't tell when the Q-Jet's filter plugs until it does unless you take it out, stick it all the way in your mouth and try to blow through it!! Been there, done that sorta deal... Spit, Spit!!
I tried to put the can down so that it is vertical but didn't cut my homemade fuel line just right so it is horizonal instead...

check the float level (if its a holley) then check the acc. pump - is the squirter workin?
check the idle mixture screws too, I've seen loose ones (bad gaskets) get sucked in to where the carb gets lean, and the engine runs bad.
