I need to know if I put in a MSD 6 box to I have to use a MSD module as well? The only diagram it shows with the 4 pin module uses there module and if I hook it up like a 5 pin it starts but won't stay running.

You have two different ways to connect an MSD 6 box to an HEI distributor, either use the MSD white wire to the C terminal of the 4 prong HEI module, OR use the two wire connector from the MSD 6 kit, to connect the magnetic feed wire from the MSD directly to the pickup wires inside the distributor and not even use the HEI module at all.

My chooce would always be to use the pickup only, to trigger an MSD, not use the white wire/HEI module.

If you have only a point distributor, then you will have to use the point wire to trigger the MSD white wire to get the system to work.

FYI, 5 prong GM HEI modules operate exactly like 4 prong ones, just have another post for detonation retard signal from separate GM ping module/knock sensor to prong 5. Leaving prong 5 disconnected deactivates the retard in the 5 prong module.

TKS IgnitionMan I hooked it up without the module and it worked fine but when I went to the track I had a terrible night it died at the 1000'mark like it ran out of fuel the 1st pass then it started bogging bad just after I launched again like it ran out of fuel for a whole sec. by my times then it pulled hard the rest of the way so now I'm working on the fuel system.
