: Trying to replace oil pan... HELP!!!

I got a 1967 Camaro with a 1969 Corvette 427 engine. We tried to remove the oil pan today (was all messed up), and it will not come out. It is in between the cross members and the bell housing is catching it. I don't really want to take the engine out just to get the pan off. Would it be easier to just pull the tranny or is there something I just don't know. Any help would be awesome.

You can pull the pan with the motor in but you will need to remove the transmission and lift the engine to do it.

If you do some searching around here you will find that jacking up the motor and rotating the crank to a certain position makes it much easier. I'm to lazy to look for you.

Never tried it on a BB, but try these tricks.

1. Remove both motormount cross bolts.

2. Remove distributor cap.

3. Loosen fan shroud.

4. Put a block of wood under pan and jack up engine. Pace wood blocks between motor mounts and frame stands for safety. BE SAFE when jacking up the motor - jack stands in place, etc.

5. By hand rotate crankshaft until timing mark is at around the 5 or 6 o'clock positin. This gets the front counter weights out of the way, at least on a SBC.

6. See if the pan will come off.

7. If the drag link is the only thing holding you up, it's pretty simple to drop it.

8. If none of this works, relax and have an ice cold beer.
