Here's some good info. Also buy lots of Fabreeze.

Had similar leak due to a loose heater hose. From a clean up side.... AntiFreeze is a real b@#$ to get out of the carpet cause it's greasy. I found that placing couple sheets of newspaper between the floor mat and carpet does the trick. It's multi day process and you'll need to change out the sheets...

Actually to help in the cleaning of the carpet, get a wet vac and keep rinsing it with a hose and maybe some carpet soap.

Yes - clean the carpet really well and repeat cleaning it. Squeeze the padding out too.

The heater core in my '68 leaked and it took a year to get the antifreeze smell out.

If you have a wet passenger floor then your heater core is leaking.

Rinse and repeat until whatever is collected in the shop vac is clear. It may be too late, but coolant will discolor the carpet badly if it is in contact long enough. The Medium Blue carpet in my 68 turned a violet color from a heater core leak before I bought it. If it is not discolored now, I would clean the carpet like crazy to try to keep it from changing color.

Also, if you search "remove heater core", there are a ton of threads on this with info in case you get stuck. It's not too bad a job, but some of the replacement cores have poorly bent/soldered tubes. If the tubes are bent wrong, it can make manuevering the box and core back into place through the lower core hole difficult, and if they are not bent enough, can cause trouble getting the heater hoses back on behind the cylinder head. There are probably part numbers in the thread here with the cores that are known to fit correctly.

By the time you screw around with paper , drying etc etc ..it is far easier to just pull the trim, front seat bolts and take the carpet out....hose down from the back well, hang up in the sun for a few hrs to dry.
Often it is better to 'work hard at being lazy' qucker and better job.
