SO i recently lost my set of inner valve springs that i took out preparing for cam break in. It has been about 1 1/2 years since i started my car rebuild and I am nearing engine starting time graemlins/hurray.gif I lost my inner valve springs, always wanted to try the comp Beehive springs, and have also heard AFRS springs werent all that good.
I have;
454 BBC
AFR 305CC heads
"had" 1.550 OD dual valve springs with titanium retainers
Ultradyne 288/296 solid flat tappet with .630 lift
Lunati recommends this spring for the cam;
part#73121, installed height,1.940 Installed
Load 140, OD 1.526. ID 0.775. MAX lift 0.730

I want to go with the comps beehive springs, and don't know crap about springs. I am thinking of calling them, but dont' know what info i need ahead of time. anyone have any experience or can offer any help? thanks!

They should fit with the stock seats, but be prepared for spending some cash.. when I called and checked on springs for mine. They ran about $250 for the set.

He, He!! NOT!!

"How fast do you wanna go, how many bucks ya got?", sorta deal..

I'm a liking the old standard stuff more and more as the price of the new, improved stuff goes higher and higher!!

But then again, I'm not a "balls-out" kinda guy!!

Generic this and "On-Sale" that..

Cody,
Before you call anyone, you need to know the installed hgt. of your present springs. One problem you will run into is that the beehive springs use a different retainer, and without having one to check installed hgt BEFORE you order the springs, you are taking a chance on whether they will fit ok. You might not have enough installed height, or you might have too much, which will mean a big stack of shims under the springs :( Bottom line is you have to know these measurements before you order springs.
Personally, if your heads are already setup for dual springs, and you have the retainers for them, I would just get a set of inner springs and go on with the program. If the springs came with the AFR heads, you should be able to get just the inners from them. Or at least they should be able to tell you who's springs they were so you can order them from the manufacturer.

I know Comp makes a BB nascar beehive spring, but dont know if it will
work with a solid. You'd have to call them and see what pressure they have.
Also what installed ht. they use, then measure yours. I payed just under $200
for the set on my 383, but you also need the retainers to match...

Well it seems they don't offer a beehive for over .600 lift, at least thats what comp told me, so looks like i will be looking for a good dual valve spring replacement. Know any good spring makers?
