My 383 has been running hot and I've been discussing some of the issues in another thread. To make a long story short, I switched from the eBay pump I bought a while ago back to a factory cast iron unit off of my old 307, and the engine seems to run cooler with the old iron pump.

Check out this link and see if you think this water pump is OK or a piece of junk ... how would it compare to a namebrand (Edelbrock, Milodon, Moroso, etc.) high flow pump? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-CHEVY-SHORT-WATER-PUMP-ALUMINUM-HIGH-VOLUME-2901_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q 7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q 3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZite m33528fbfcbQQitemZ220428484555QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5f TruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Did a bit of Google searching, and the site below has a similar pump for $138.54, so it seems the eBay pump is the better deal.

Have you looked at Stewart Stage 2?
Their site has some good tips about the rest of the cooling system.

I too had looked at that exact same water pump on eBay. My biggest concerns was on it's casting and bearing quality. After a few messages with the seller I decided to buy a Stewart Stage 2 pump from Summit instead. Yeah it might cost a bit more but..... not as much as damaging a new engine due to over heating.
