I need some information on the Eldebrock proformer rpm cam in a 396 30 over how does it sound lopy or smooth & what kind if power will it make with stock 2.06 intake & 1.72 exhaust valves in oval port head with 9.6 compression ratio. I have m -20 trans & a 3.07 rear gear so I will need power off the line will this set up work if not give me a good cam for this combo.

Do you have the came already? If not, you may want to go with something slightly different. Edelbrock makes great stuff, but their cams leave a little to be desired. They make very few cams, so they tend to be generic and make compromises for a wide variety of engines. If you call Comp Cams or Crane they will be able to recommend something that will be a better fit and give you more power. Edelbrock power packages are good, but there are definitely better cams out there.

I agree 100% with Shawn.I run Edelbrock cam/intake combo,(worked over fuelie heads though)and think it's great. The cams are very mild in my opinion though.I think you can get more performance out of a more radical cam without sacrificing any streetabilty.Just my opinion though, based on looking at the cam specs.,and from what I hear other people with the "package" say.

Johnny,

I would look at the comp cams extreme series. They are dual pattern and have faster ramps to get better performance from a smaller overall lift. I would call the info line and give them your engine specifics and see which one they say is the best.

I agree with Kent on the comp cams extreme series camshafts. I'am using one in my 468 and it runs great. I'd say always go with the newer technology, comp cams put alot of R&D in these new grinds so you know they would'nt of put them on the market if they were inferior to their previous designs.

I just put the Comp Cams 274 Extreme Energy (230/236 @ .050) in a 400 small block. It's got a slightly rough idle and gobs of torque. Seems like a great cam so far.
