wiskeesour Jun 15th, 09, 10:58 AM Tune up and new cat.
Wait, what car? What mileage are you getting? There are all sorts of things depending on the car and such. I hear there is a can of "Smog pass" or something similar out on the market at Azone or Orileys maybe?
zlek131 Jun 15th, 09, 11:12 AM Read this thread especially the part that helped me (zlek131) out...

SPARKY69 Jun 15th, 09, 12:44 PM what kind of car is this??
sobo Jun 15th, 09, 03:14 PM 305 tpi Iroc Z
I should also say that I did not drive it on the weekend and took it in this morning for smog after driving it a short time. Is it possible I didn't heat the cat up enough?
Thanks for the help
sobo Jun 16th, 09, 07:15 AM I'm wondering if I didn't heat things up enough before I went in. Woudl more heat in the cat bring my 15mph nox down 200 ppm?
SixtyAte Jun 16th, 09, 02:29 PM Change oil and filter, drive highway at least 10 miles each way then go test and it should pass.

Steptoe Jun 16th, 09, 02:36 PM NOX is a direct result of an over advanced dizzy curve...Something many here promote in direct comflict with car manufactures and their billions of dollars of research...
A high intial cent advance plus VA plus springs too light will put the advance way over..plus it loads the engine causing slow long term death... or any one of the above will cause it.
Yes a hot cat does work more efficient, but it will not 'burn' everything.
A correct idle advance, and tuned engine will not need a cat, unless the engine is highly modified with big carbs and cams.
sobo Jun 16th, 09, 07:10 PM So do you think a hotter cat will bring the nox down at 15mph?
langss Jun 19th, 09, 07:35 PM So do you think a hotter cat will bring the nox down at 15mph?You need to have the engine as hot as possible, changing the plugs, wires, cap and rotor will help as will an oil change.Change the air filter and fill the tank with premium. If you do not know how to properly check the timing on a computer controlled car, buy a manual its not done the same as a non computer controlled car. Also make sure that your EGR is working properly.Thirdgen.org is a world of information.
JimM Jun 19th, 09, 09:13 PM Steps, this is an efi engine, it has no advance weights or vacuum advance, the dizzy should be fixed at 10 degrees, and the computer takes it from there.
Those types of numbers are often from a lean misfire. Run some fuel injector cleaner thru it. Check your fuel pressure. Could be dirty injectors, dirty fuel filter, stuck regulator.

I just naturally assume camaros are 1st gen m8...
Is there another sort ? lol
PowerWindows Jun 19th, 09, 10:53 PM My 89 needed a new EGR to fix that....
