I just ran across a show on Discovery channel I've never seen called "Wrecks to Riches". Y'all are probably familiar with it. It was great. I'm wondering about the cost they put into the project. Today they did a 64 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt. They said they had $42,000 and 350 man hours in it. Does that mean they actually have spent 42k in cash and then put 350 man hours into it? At $60/hr that would mean they would be out another 21k.
They got 65k for it at auction and said they made 23K.

This was such a coincident. I've been putsin around with my 68 for years now. Back when I bought it I couldn't find a shop that would take on a restoration. I finally looked on Craigs list and found two in the area and one guy came over while I was watching Wrecks to Riches and is going to give me a bid. I don't have a clue what he'll want. It's going to be a major restore. Here's what he's bidding on:

floor pans both sides (may go with one piece full floor).
trunk floor
quarter panels repaired. (He didn't think I needed full replacements but 80% might do)
some repair on inner and outer wheel houses
dash metal
one inner fender
disassemble front end, pull subframe out, sand blast and paint it
paint engine compartment body color (firewall, inner fenders, under hood etc)
assemble rear end (which is out now) with new springs
paint car to include bumble bee stripe
separate bid to redo complete interior and new convertible top

What is your guess on what his bid will be? I'll know in a couple of days.

Wow, 87 views overnight and no responses? Did I put this in the wrong section?

Winch: put this in "body and paint" or "restoration" and you'll get a better response....
as far as these t.v. shows go, I don't think I'd want a car that was put together and painted in a couple weeks or whatever. I live near L.A. where they film most of this stuff. A buddy of mine does custom kitchens and bathrooms. He says he's worked on many homes that had those t.v. shows come in and build a kitchen (you know "while you were out" type stuff). He says the shortcuts were unbelievable. I can't help but think the same would be true with some of the cars being built so fast.

How much was the quote? And did anything happen?

3 Quotes all came in around 12k labor. I went with one who's 12k included paint & material and the labor to completely redo the interior.
