I am having a devil of a time finding ANY Butternut SS Covertibles....yet according to stats Butternuts were 17 percent of all camaros in 1967 and 11 percent of all camars in 1968. This leads me to believe that many were repainted???? Any thoughts?

I've seen one!! I had a friend with a restored, '67, 6cyl convertible that was painted Butternut Yellow. Of course this was back in '85 and I haven't seen the car in 25 years. You've gotta admit it's not the best color for a performance car!!

My mom had a Sandalwod Beige, '71 Chevelle that she made me repaint in the same color. I'd put this color in the same demographic as Caddy's and Town cars: age group 55 to dead!!

I saw a T-bucket (?) if that's what they're called, it was butternut yellow and looked really sharp. I think with all the new "candies" and such, a light yellow may look pretty sporty.

Since Butternut Yellow was the second most popular color in 1967, the odds are pretty good that there were a good number of SS convertibles. Although it was a popular color in the 60's, apparently it didn't stand the test of time as my research has shown a lot to have been repainted a different color.

Keep an eye on ebay, they pop up from time to time. Here's an example of one from a couple of years ago.

Thanks Kevin....I am dying to buy one..... love the SS louvered hood...so its not easy. I have even done national RS feeds off craigslist too.

I mean most repaints are Red....but come on.... Isn't that kind of pathetic.....

I look at a lot of 68 convertibles advertised for sale and can say yes, many Butternuts have been repainted a different color. It's just not that popular today, but there are plenty of repainted ones out there with original Y paint codes

A member here has a site dedicated to Y paint coded Camaro's

They show up on ebay now and then.

Something subtle about BY, specially without stripes, like this one:

Butternut Yellow cars here:

And the 69's are really hard to find:

I tried to conract you via the Y2 site about my Butternut '67 but since I don't use Outlook I couldn't get your email address. You can add my car to the registry.

This Camaro doesn't exactly fit the bill to what you're looking for but here's a link to a butternut for sell that inspired me to buy the butternut car I have. The color has grown on me but I'm still not 100% if I'm going to keep it that color when it's time for paint. Good luck.

Better have a big bag o' cash, here's a 67 SS that just sold for $8490 on ebay. Seems like a lot of money for such a basketcase.

But... as the number of basket cases dwindle... the prices will go up. Supply and demand.

I,ve got a butternut rs/ss convert 396 4spd. Its in the old primer red now. I bought it last fall, It's all taken apart. Will be a few years before I can put it together. I can't decide if I should paint it correct or not. It will probally be worth more yellow. I like red! Ed

The last Camaro that I sold about 8 years ago was originaly a Butternut Yellow 69
I had the car repainted a Burgandy-The car has now been painted White.
If I still had the car I would go back to the Butternut Yellow.

Once had a 67 RS Butternut Yellow- Paid $150 rough condition, wish I kept that one!

My '67 convertible barn find was a Butternut yellow paint. I'm not likely to repaint it yellow though. I'm thinking more of a deep blue, but who knows. It was a six cylinder car with standard trans, don't know if it was three or four speed.

That is one rough puppy! Did anyone notice that the block is stamped 0209 for a 6B car? That motor sat for a while before it found its way into this car, assuming it is the original. Notice also the original bumble bee - I think the stripes on the early cars actually wrapped around under the bumper. There is a separate thread about this somewhere.

Good luck on the BY convertible. They are out there, but you might not be able to get too choosy on color if you are looking for a nice original convertible SS.
