I am about to mount up a 16" electric fan and would love to hear how people are doing it.

Are there good or bad sotries about using the zip ties through the radiator? I did this with my trans cooler but the fan is heavier so I am skeptical.

Thanks!

make some simple brackets that use the original fan shroud mounting holes.
in my Regal, i cut up a plastic radiator top plate for some random car and made an almost stock looking plastic upper mount for the 16" Hayden fan. at the bottom, i used one stock fan shroud hole and drilled another hole. all holes have stock threaded clips that allow the fan to be easily installed and removed.

I took some 4" molly bolts, slipped them through some hard plastic tubing and slid those through the radiator fins with a large flat washer and crown nuts. Been working fine for the past 7 years.

novaderrik, That won't work on a 69. The shroud only has one bolt at the top center where it hangs from a flimsy bracket. On the bottom it slides into clips on the radiator.

Greg are you going to run a shroud? If so make one out of aluminum.I'm running 2 12" fans and am almost done building my shroud, check my webshots link under my sig. for some pictures.

with that shroud you are building, you are making a good chunk of the rad core useless by not allowing air to flow thru it. have you tried running it with just the fans mounted without that plate that blocks all the airflow?

then make brackets that wrap around to the rad mounting bolts. it's only as complicated as you make it.
