View Full Version : HOW does this SOUND?
rolling-robert Jun 21st, 09, 04:13 AM http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-CL12-262-4/
It's for the 355 engine thats in my SIG.
the isky cam is too big, it runs like crap and impossible to tune.
i set my mind on a compcam XE with 218/224 duration. and 114lsa/lca.
compcam also has another 218/224 duration cam but with 110lsa/lca.
114llsa sound better for my engine, right?
markw Jun 21st, 09, 05:09 AM Leave the cam, it's the 2.73 rear that's killing you.
wagonman Jun 21st, 09, 08:44 AM I must admit,
Your engine combo with that 2:73..............is contradicting.....even if you don’t race
DOUG G Jun 21st, 09, 09:09 AM the isky cam is too big, it runs like crap and impossible to tune.
Whats the problem ?
I don't feel its the cam :noway:
2.73's aren't that bad (I went 13.5's with mine and 80mph in 1st gear playing with the "ricers")
rolling-robert Jun 21st, 09, 12:59 PM its idling (well, idling...) at 30 degrees advanced and limited to 36 degrees max.
Ive got a 3.23 limited slip axle that i want to get in.
i dont think the isky cam is a good match for the old heads with small valves and 9.7 compr.
im dissapointed now with the lack of performance/torque.
DOUG G Jun 21st, 09, 01:21 PM 30* ????
Initial should be about 12* BTDC
Total about 36* all in by 3000rpms or so
Both with vacuum advance disconnected and plugged.
DZ Fool Jun 21st, 09, 07:27 PM Needs a converter before anything. I have gotten my but kicked by a 3.08 gear 355 Turbo 350 with a 3500 stall

Then it will be real sluggish, and impossible to idle.

You only have about 10 more degrees on my cam. My cam idles fine just sounds nasty lol. My 2.73 gears hold it back trying to move...buddy of mine same engine with 3.73 gears no issues moving.
DOUG G Jun 22nd, 09, 03:34 AM Sluggish :noway: 230 @ .050 with .486 lift with 1.5 rockers....12 Int. and 38 Total Idled fine IMO
and you can hear it HERE (http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a130/Dougs68Camaro/?action=view¤t=DSCF0001.flv)
rolling-robert Jun 22nd, 09, 09:53 AM the cam is a 234 @ .050 at 106 LSA you have a 230 @.050 at 110lsa in a 406ci.
your engine is bigger, your duration is smaller and your lsa is wider, that's 3 reasons why it runs good for you.
67 Plum Jun 22nd, 09, 10:02 AM compcam also has another 218/224 duration cam but with 110lsa/lca.
I like this the best for your combo. What are the lift specs.?
I have used this cam in a few 350s and it works well.It has a slight rumble but not much.I think the compcam would sound a little better at idle and still run great.

Do you have a vacuum advance? If so, is it hooked up to full manifold vacuum? Have you tried an adjustable advance that you can dial down to where the advance kicks in at a lower vacuum?

markw Jun 22nd, 09, 06:23 PM I have gotten my butt kicked by a 3.08 gear 355 Turbo 350 with a 3500 stall Takes a real man to admit to that!:D

Well, your money, your car... But I will say... there are a lot of 350's and 355's with a lot bigger cams working fine.
rolling-robert Jun 26th, 09, 11:58 AM but how can i make it idle better???
it has such a low vacuum at idle (around 5hg in drive) that the vacuum advance doesnt respond at all!
rolling-robert Jun 26th, 09, 11:59 AM i have a stock new 750 edelbrock carb, with 2 holes drilled in the primairy plates, ill try that first.
