Anyone ever take amtrak on a long trip? any thoughts or opinions? ( NJ TO FLA)

My wife and two boys take Amtrack from AZ to NY every summer. 2.5 day trip and they love doing it. Some of the trains (Chicago-NYC as example) are better than others. It must be the adventure as the train is no less expensive than flying.......One ything the wife does is keep checking the Amtrack website for prices as they go up and down at random.
