View Full Version : StreetRacing... 2-3 more die in Md. DOUG G Jun 21st, 09, 07:57 PM http://wbal.com/apps/news/templates/story.aspx?articleid=29805&zoneid=3 novaderrik Jun 21st, 09, 08:38 PM the phrase "drag racing" was included in that article for some reason.. i really wish they wouldn't do that.. camaroman7d Jun 21st, 09, 10:22 PM Derrik, I'm with you on that, it really annoys me that everytime speed is involved in an accident it's called "drag" racing or street racing. From the article I didn't hear mention of any other vehicle involved in the "race" kind of hard to race alone. Maybe it was just simply wreckless driving or an accident? It's sad that the people lost their lives don't get me wrong. Why would people be "parked" on a highway? I think there's a lot more to the story. 68 Ragtop Jun 21st, 09, 10:35 PM Derrik, I'm with you on that, it really annoys me that everytime speed is involved in an accident it's called "drag" racing or street racing. It's sad that the people lost their lives don't get me wrong. Why would people be "parked" on a highway? I think there's a lot more to the story. Here is why: witnesses told troopers that people had gathered to watch drag racing in that area. Investigators believe Raeburn fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed after he spotted a Baltimore County Police vehicle buenymayor Jun 22nd, 09, 01:06 AM Derrik, I'm with you on that, it really annoys me that everytime speed is involved in an accident it's called "drag" racing or street racing. They automatically think people are drinking, too. That annoys me. Anytime there is an accident, someone just has to be drunk. Granted it happens a lot, but that isn't the only cause of accidents. BadMrFrossty Jun 22nd, 09, 09:56 AM The local authorities everywhere have been cracking down on "street racing". I agree with the above statements. They twist the story to make the media and people believe and view it as they want it to be viewed. I have some cop friends where I am and anytime something like that happens, they put the street racing spin on it(there superiors advise them to if you get what I mean). Regardless of the real reason. They want it to be perceived as a bigger problem than it is to enforce stricter laws and more fines. STUPID and WRONG! camaroman7d Jun 22nd, 09, 12:06 PM "Witnesses told troopers", but where's the proof? Did they stop any of these people that gathered? It could have very well have been a drag or street race, I'm not saying it wasn't. I just want to hear all the facts and not assumptions. The fact that the youngsters were parked on the highway makes it look even more like a street race. The article makes it sound like these innocent people were parked and got killed by the big mean street racer. From what I see in the article and real life experience it looks like maybe the people that were hit could have been down "track" watching the races (which is illegal just like participating in the race). If you are dumb enough to stand down "track" with no gaurd rails at an illegal street race, you have to expect something bad to happen. We have all seen it. When I used to go to such gatherings I made darn sure I was BEHIND the starting line, to me that's common sense. The media and the police love to hype up the street racing thing. Is it a real problem? Sure in some places more than others. Just as Patrick stated often times it is being used for leverage to make stricter laws. There are already laws on the books to cover such incedents. We have all seen the Police training video on how to spot modified or possible street racing vehicles, right? It's more like harrassment in my book, but as long as idiots keep going out and killing people we will all be punished. SPARKY69 Jun 22nd, 09, 12:16 PM I hate for anybody to die!! We have all been stupid in our driving abilities!! |
