Installed the engine Saturday with the help of freinds and then severely tested our friendship when we had to remove and replace the engine on Sunday evening (in the dark) to install the missing pilot bearing at the end of the crank  Thank God for good freinds!

I know NONE of you would EVER do something like this so I will sulk alone in my eternal shame! :D

I put an engine in a Lumina once forget the flexplate, I only had started 2 bellhousing
bolts started, before I found out. At another dealer one guy forgot the the rear main
seal, pumped a lot of oil, replaced seal, this time he forgot the flexplate.

why didn't you just take out the tranny and do it from the bottom? those muncies are actually pretty light and with a good floor jack 1 person can remove and install . i mean nothing was hooked up to it yet, right?

Everything was hooked up still to the tranny. Getting the engine out was only about 30 mins. Getting it back again was another story...

a word to the wise , some times its better and eiser just to unbolt the crossmember, mount, speedo cable and driveshaft and remove the trans AND the motor together.

Some (me) only learn from mistakes. I am wrenching now and am almost back to zero point where I left off before I went the other way and removed it again.

I have come to the conclusion that a checklist is helpful in these situations. Of course, even then, silly things can still happen. It is the Zen of shadetree mechanics.
