View Full Version : patriot Performance Vortec heads
ron498 Jun 23rd, 09, 01:47 AM Guys,
Working on a real low budget 355 for my kids S10 project.
Short time frame as well. Which means I do not want to go find boneyard castings and rework them.
What do you think of these heads?
We will build a 6000 rpm max deal here. These seem like a great value, unless they are junk...

ace's68 Jun 25th, 09, 07:32 PM Well...
I made the mistake of buying a set of their 190cc freedom series heads and had horrible intake fitment issues and they machined the valves incorrectly so you need to use 2 piece guides to line the rockers up or they will be half on the valve and half off (it's worse that you would think). I didn't think someone as reputable as jegs would sell their crap. I don't have the pictures on this computer but if you use the sites search you will find a few posts with my pics in them. When you call them and tell them of your findings their machinist gets really uppity with you, unless you talk to someone else, they did send me adjustable guides for free but i would rather them take their waste of aluminum heads back.

Alum or not, a product like I got says something about all of their products as a whole.
hope this helps...
wiskeesour Jun 27th, 09, 10:39 PM If you put these on a modest street motor, like for your kid, they should be fine. I know for a fact that they shouldnt be used on anything prducing more than 350-400hp.
The cast heads should be ok, however, Ive never seen or dealt with them.
pdq67 Jun 28th, 09, 12:15 PM Please consider looking into the new RHS Company's heads that I think are the same ones?
RHS is backed by CC so I figure they are fine! And aren't the owner(s) of CC even into Lunati's now?

ron498 Jul 2nd, 09, 01:46 AM $500 ea for the bottom of the order....does that fit my cost?

Thats the heads that Competition Products has. http://www.competitionproducts.com/products.asp?dept=1262
Notalent Jul 2nd, 09, 07:08 AM There vortec heads are quite nice. We use quite a bit of them on 350/383 builds and you cant go wrong for the price. Bigger valves, center & perimter bolt pattern for the valve covers, screw in studs etc... The only problems we have had with Patriot are there Ford Aluminum heads. On anything bigger than a 302 with more torque lbs on the head bolts they will crack above the bolts...happened to 4 sets on a few mild 408 strokers/351 windsors. I may be able to save you a couple bucks on the 2151's shoot me a PM if intrested.
