anyone make a cable hood release for the first gen camaros?
i have a 68 rs camaro and hate the fact that anyone can just come and pop my had when ever they feel like. makes for easy picking if some has sticky fingers.
so i was wondering if anyone makes or has made a successful cable hood release like the ones found on modern day cars for a 67-69 camaro?

They dont have to waste time and go under the hood. Pop the door open and drive off with your car, is all they have to do, or steal the trailer its on.
The first owner of my car had a chain and padlock jimmied in there. She had to get on her knees, pull the dang thing down and then unlock the padlock. She had a problem of losing batteries in the place she lived at in Long Beach.
Get a trunk monkey.

I agree. If they want it they will take the car.
Lokar makes a cable kit for street rods that will work on the camaro. Hardest part will be fiiguring out where to mount the pull handle in the car.

You might try something like this - it locks the hood release itself: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showpost.php?p=637327&postcount=2
Here's a thread where someone identified a source for the locks themselves as well as some other security ideas: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152085

We are working on a cable activated hood release for first gens. If all goes well it should be available soon.

If anyone gets the cable and ignition disable kit that Mike used follow his lead and don't install it following the instructions and using the bracket for the pin to lock into. The way Mike did it will keep you from having someone trying to open your hood and jambing the cable so it won't release. As designed the kit doesn't stop the factory latch from working so the hood pops up slightly disabling the cable lock from releasing. If you wire the starter disable this also leaves you with a car that won't start until you get the cable lock released and reset.
Closing the hood didn't work because the bracket had bent, when the guy finely got the hood open he just forced it all the way bending the bolted on latch plate until the cable pin finally released from it. The cable pin is fairly strong so having it stop the factory latch from moving is the way to go.
