I searched through the old threads, went to the automotive paint library site that was mentioned and got the same ditzler number that I got off a pontiac service bulletin where I got two other codes. Problem is that when I got to my paint place none of those codes match to anything I would be using. Here are the codes: Du Pont, 88L; Ditzler, 9266; Rinshed-Mason, A-946. Can anyone tell me an updated code for starlight black on the dash (not upper)in a 68 firebird? I imagine it was a laquer - am I correct? I tried the site where someone said you could get laquer in a spray can and couldn't find it. I thought about regular rattle can black but it never seems to completely harden. I tried dupli-color jet black but it is more of a very dark grey and doesn't match the plastic pieces as I found out after sanding, priming, 4 coats of black and 2 coats of clear.

My first question would be, where are you trying to buy paint - what dealer/brand ???
DuPont 88L crosses to PPG 9248 - so any PPG delaer should be able to mix it.
I buy mine form my local PPG guy.

The 'iffy' part is the amount of gloss you need/want for whatever part you're painting.
Here is a link to the Pont. info with "Trim Code" gloss designations - http://firstgenfirebird.org/dtb/docs/68-I-12.pdf
Your favorite paint place can pre-mix the 'Flatting' into the paint for you - or, as I prefer, you can buy the flatting agent from them and add to you own mixes to get the sheen you want.

The ppg code should work. Its 30 degrees of gloss.
Thanks man.
