Some of you may remember that I installed the Pypes 3" exhaust with X pipe on my 68 with DynoMax UltraFlo's an I reported no problems with Hotchkis Springs and 275/40's on the back.. Well after some "real" driving, I having some clearance issues, and think I need to cut these tailpipes off.

They clear the tires, but not by enough. A good bump and they hit real hard..

I went and picked up some turnouts, hoping to just cut off the tailpipes and put these on, but they look like they will extend past the rear... Is that ok? Anyone have pics of their turnouts?

Sorry to hear that, but it also looks like you will need to add a new hanger to support the rear exhaust.

It's too bad you welded those 3" tails to the muffler outlet because all you would have had to do is cut the tails beyond the curved part and turn them down or whatever position suits you.....I remember having clearance issues with 2 1/2" diameter tails and hated it!

Great idea Badbird.. They are only tack welded. I can cut the tacks and do that. That might actually work perfect. Great idea...

Fred, Its not a year issue. Im having this issue b/c my car is lowered and I have 275's on 9.5" rims tucked under the wheelwell...

The flowmaster tailpipes everyone is speaking of run straight out the rear I believe. Im not really into that look.

I really think this is a geometry/pipe bending experience and knowledge problem.
First muffler shop I went to, I have the same problems, second time around, everything is fine, same guy did the same job on several friends camaros of various years and none of them have this problem. Lowered, 295's, whatever, they don't rub.

Dumps are cool and I would do it in a heart beat if I had a car I was gonna drive for a 1/8-1/4 mile at a time but for street driving the fumes and drone will knock you out cold.

Thanks!.....That's what I done on my 68 coupe!.....I know my reciprocating saw would be useful for something on my car!....Also, the fumes and drone symptons are a myth!

Mike...the 67-68's come dumped at the quarter panel just like you want.

The flowmaster tailpipes do? I thought they were the same part number for 67-69..

Flowmaster #15822, tails that turn out at quarter. 69's are different.

Anyone have them with offset/offset mufflers? I think they are for offset/center.

Mine are offset/center but I bet the offset/offset would still work fine. call Flowmaster and see what they say.

Heres what I did. I removed the last section of tailpipe, and cut along the factory weld, leaving a 45... Think this will be good? Its kinda facing the top of the leaf now... Not sure if this would be better or worse that just dumping it..

Yeah i think it looks good too. My only question is if its going to give me any weird tones bouncing off the leaf like that, or cause more fumes cause the exhaust pulse doesnt have a clear exit... what do ya think?

You are not going to like that set up!:noway:....I had mine like that before I cut them down and couldn't stand the exhaust fumes collecting inside the wheel wells and also a weird "flapping" noise which sort of sounded like slight exhaust backfires from the exhaust bouncing off the leaf springs and the wheel wells!

I have the Flowmaster 15822 and love it, you can usually find a used one on ebay or craiglist but I prefer new with a warranty so I got bought from Flowmaster directly here. Flowmaster 15822 (http://flowmasterdirect.com/product.php?productid=2002?odj), or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

I believe its for 67-69.

If you decide to do turndowns Flowmaster T-3030 turndowns are much shorter. Running them on my 2nd gen with the Magnaflow 3" X-pipe and Magnaflow mufflers. I have the turndowns pointed out to the side and have no issues with fumes........definitely a myth:)

I don't have any good pictures but could get some if you still want to see some.
