I know there has got to be an easier way to mount a 69 console rather than dropping the transmission? Also the AIM says there are dimples where you are to drill the holes for the front but I don'd see them. Is there a measurement I can use based on the already mounted horeshoe shifter? I'm tired of laying on my back and swearing.

I put a console in my 68 and there were dimples. Look from within the car, not underneath. I didn't see them at first and had drilled my own holes after some guesstimating. I wasn't too far off. I wish you had asked a week ago before I put all of my interior in.

As for the nuts you need to install above the transmission, you might be able to remove the studs from the console mount, then install some rivnuts and bolt it from the inside. That might be hard too though because you have to assemble the console almost completely before you can mount it.

I have heard that there is enough room for some skinny arms to squeeze between the transmission and the hump to get the bolts on the studs. I haven't gotten to that part yet. I just bolted the rear of the console in and will wait to do my transmission swap to get those front nuts on.

I have a '67 and there are no "dimples" on where to drill the hooles, either...although I think the '69 console mount sits futher "forward" than the mounting for the 67-8 consoles. Found a couple of photos as I search around these forums...

I mounted a console in my '68, the dimples are fairly easy to see from the top. I used 3 rivnuts and it worked great and are much easier when you have to remove the console later. I believe the 69 is the same.

Why not just grind the studs off the bracket and use epoxy to fasten the bracket from the inside? You can find the location by lining up the console with the rear hole under the console lid. Thats how i plan to do mine since my trans is installed and is a Tremec with very little clearance above...

I was able to mount mine without droping hte tranny. Just needed a couple of long extensions, a swivel socket, and some wheel bearing grease.
