I had the frame on my 69 Camaro power coated and I'm now re-installing the parts. Will I have a problem with the ground straps on a powder coated frame? Do I need to grind away the powder coating for a good ground (hope not)? THANKS!

Yes. Treat the coating like a coat of paint.

It's basically a plastic coating. If you have good clean threads and a new uncoated bolt and washer, it will still ground without any problems. This just keeps you from grinding down your new coat.

how about using a "star washer" to get through the coat and touch the metal

Thanks for the info. That powder coat looks plenty thick so I don't think the star washer will penetrate it. Maybe I'll try the clean thread route first to see how it works. Thanks.

The engine block and the body are the main ground systems. If your battery is grounded to the block and you have the small pig-tail lead from the battery (-) to the right fender you should be good to go.

Most electrical problems are caused by a bad ground.
Grind away..
Make it look nice, but do it right..

The only frame grounds were for noise suppression. No need to boogar up a good powder coat if the two ground points I mentioned above are good.

Ground mine down on my powder coated frame. Used a small grinding disc pad with a angled die grinder.
