I installed a tall deck 427 w/ truck heads... ( I know, I know... lol) in my car and wound up getting a MSD slip collar mechanical advance distributer.
I found that Molley made a vacuum AFTER the install.
Anyhow It is a daily driver with a 750 carb and a 1500- 6500 manifold,
I'm just wondering if some one out there might know the best general initial timing and spring/weight setup I should use?!

Oh ya... It's an 81 camero 3 spd ( soon 4 ) with hgwy gears! Thanks!

Post the engine specs.

Specs, well it's pretty much stock.

A 1968 454 tall deck block bored .10 with a 396 cam and 1976 truck heads that are very much stock as well. The only other changes are the intake manifold, carb, alt, fuel pump... you know, that stuff.

It's all I can tell ya?!:o

Rob give Summit Racing's website a try. I find that most of the equipment they sell has the entire installation manuals available for free in pdf format for you to download and print. I did this for my Mallory unitlite mechanical distributor and got absolutely everything I could ever need for tuning from it.

I've used this map as the starting point on every engine I've built for the last 20 years (street engines, not race engines), with only minor tuning changes later to optimize it:

10*-12* initial

24* centrifugal, starting 100 rpm over idle, all in by 2800-3000.

Vacuum advance can (that adds 15*) that's fully-deployed at 2" Hg. less than normal idle manifold vacuum, connected to a full manifold vacuum source.

This initial setup has always been VERY close to the final setup after tuning.

:beers:
