View Full Version : what radiator and (electric) fan in your Big Block ?
68zz502fi Jun 28th, 09, 09:42 AM Im looking for a radiator and fan assembly to put in my 1968 camaro. Im running a fuel injected ZZ502 big block with the long 1969 style water pump and accessory brackets.I am intent on running an electric fan and possibly an aluminum radiator.I do have a new 3 core from superior radiator I may just run a GOOD electric fan on. I do like the idea of an aluminum radiator and may try that instead, hate to waste a new one tho.I guess it depends on what I learn here from some of your experiences.
Im looking for some imput and ideas on what you guys with big blocks have experienced out there, what works, what it costs, who makes it, etc.
p.s. I do intend to run an oil cooler and install pannels to direct air to the radiator.
any input is much appreciated!
thanks!

my battery is relocated to the trunk and allows me to run a wider than stock rad..so my application will be of no help.
I just flat out like the flex-alite Black majic extreme with the adjustable on/off controller. This fan kit will mount inside most core surfaces and pulls a ton of cfm with minmal current draw.
I am familiar with cooling a zz502 and this kit will get it done hands down.
great bang for the buck imo.Fwiw..I run dual spals with a 2 row tin Griffen =4000 cfm @ 48 amps/105 amp spike as measured.
Erik Beckett Jun 28th, 09, 07:31 PM Check out prchotrod.com. Superior quality for the price. My 540 runs at 180 all day!

zlek131 Jun 28th, 09, 09:49 PM BeCool module kit (radiator, dual fans, all mounting brackets, all wiring, overflow tank). They make 700HP and 1000HP kits. I got the 700HP and have been happy with it. You can get the radiator polished. The fans come with black shroud or polished. My 68 w/454 was running hot before, runs nice and cool now.
BigBlock1969RS Jun 29th, 09, 11:05 PM Ron Davis double pass with twin 13" Spal fans. Very nice quality fit and finish.

stroud6 Jun 30th, 09, 05:00 AM I have a big block manual trans. I bought one off ebay. Entropy I think is the spelling. Aluminum with dual fans. Runs 180 all day. Am very happy with it. mark
67speedfreak Jun 30th, 09, 06:39 AM Another vote for Ron Davis.
I have one in my 68 with a 502ci and she never gets over 180.

I am running the same BB Entropy but with a SB. Had a 180* thermostat in it but it ran to cool for good operating temp. Stuck in a 195* stat and runs about 190*. If the prices haven't changed guessing by where you live. The cost would be right around $725 including shipping and the fan wiring harness. Besides making them for manual trannys they also make them for automatics with the built in tranny cooler.
dukemd66 Jun 30th, 09, 08:50 AM How well did the Entropy bolt in? Modifications?

No mods at all. Mounts to the existing mounting points of the core support for BB. On the drivers side you use well nuts. I changed mine though. They are cheapy. What I did was used a well nut on the dr. side bottom hole, because a bolt can't go all the way through unless you drill a hole in the support. On the top dr. side I used a grommet for the 1/2" hole and then a collared brass insert that the well nut bolt could go through with a couple washers and lock nut. The brass insert was a little long so just needed the cut it down some. But now I won't have to worry about a well nut pulling out. What just about happened to me.
Notalent Jun 30th, 09, 01:53 PM Im installing a Champion 3 core aluminum radiator with twin electric fans pushing around 2900cfm. Great price and I know a few people running them in big power applications and they cool them BBC just fine. It better cool my 600hp 496ci!!!! lol
