I've got one of those gray breathable car covers similar to the ones found in the camaro classics and summit catalogs. It was purchased several years ago so Im not sure of the brand or how to clean it. Every time I take it off the car it leaves a layer of fine dust behind. Super annoying. I was thinking of throwing it in the wash, gentle cycle with just a little bit of detergeant, then hang drying it on the patio or something. Anyone see any problems with cleaning a cover this way? Suggestions?

thanks

depends on the fabric. Evolution has instructions on their website. If it is Evolution 4 you can hang and spray of use a commercial washer with 1/2 cup of Fantastik, If a single layer fabric chunk it in the washer.

Mine is an indoor cover and if I remember correctly the instructions were to wash in mild detergent( I use Woolite ). I find its dry enough when it comes out of the wash machine that I can just prop it up in the rec room for a couple of days to dry. This way it avoids getting anything from the trees etc. on it while drying.

I would use one of the big washing machines at a laundry mat with cold water and a liquid soap that doesn't have fabric softner in it. One of the biggest supplier of car cover material is Kimberly Clark, a paper company and most covers are mostly synthetic material. The softner will cause the material to swell and destroy it's breathability. I would be extra careful with machine drying too. A little too much heat and most covers will melt like a plastic cup tossed into an open fire.
Frank is right about line drying outside, if the side of the cover that touches the car is exposed it can collect fallout from trees.
