View Full Version : my new visors don't look right
jr68 Jun 29th, 09, 02:55 PM I threw away my old visors and ordered new ones from Classic.
The package says 68 and 69 Camaro but this just does not look right.
Does anyone have any pics of theirs I can compare to ?
They look too long and overlap.

cdunson Jun 29th, 09, 03:15 PM Can't remember what mine look like at the moment but your mounting points seem a little too far inboard maybe?
click Jun 29th, 09, 03:17 PM Jerry, I agree, not right. My 69's push into the little receiving notch above the mirror. Those are too long or the 3 screw plate is too far toward center. If the plate is in correct position then the visors are too long, maybe for Malibu?

jr68 Jun 30th, 09, 12:59 PM Are convertible visors longer than coupe? The convertible mount into a piece that is part of the tho of the A pillar...
that would be good to know,
can someone measure their vert ones , I bet thats what I have.
I'll have to contact Ground up and maybe they can exchange them ( I thought I got them from Classic I was wrong )
DjD Jun 30th, 09, 01:40 PM I just did Jerry, my ragtop visors are 18 3/16" vinyl edge to vinyl edge at the top where the rod goes through...
jr68 Jun 30th, 09, 06:37 PM Mine are 18 1/2"
I emailed ground up, we'll see what happens.
anyone have a dimension on a coupe visor ?
scblucam Jun 30th, 09, 08:06 PM About 19 inches from center of pivot to center of center latch. Looks like the pivot is in the wrong place.
Steptoe Jun 30th, 09, 10:02 PM Just had a look at my 69s sry no pics the camera is flat
The round mount base outsidedge is damn near parrell with the top edge of the A pillar moulding
It appears the base...if 69 is the wrong way around....2 mounting screws should be to the rear 1 infront, and the arm that comes out of the base faces to the front of the car
The base mounts to the roof (3 screws) in only 1 position as the screw holes are not evenly spaced.
You also need the little rubber things that go on the other end to clip into the bracket around the revision mirror.
larryh56 Jul 1st, 09, 12:12 AM My 68 coupe visors are 17 1/4 inches along the top of the vinyl where the rod goes through. They are original. Your mounting position looks good, about the same as mine.
The Camaro Guy Jul 1st, 09, 05:31 AM I would say your mounting is too far in. Did you use existing holes or did you drill new ones? What year did the rear view mirror get longer? That is when the visors got shorter.
jrjohnston Jul 1st, 09, 06:36 AM Those look like 70-73 not 67-69.
twozs Jul 1st, 09, 11:11 AM 70 was the only second gen with the male adapter on the end the other years just hung there
Lexlas Jul 1st, 09, 11:49 AM I will have to look at mines when i get home and post a pix up, but i'm pretty sure they should not overlap like that.
canX11 Jul 1st, 09, 12:06 PM Here is a pic of one of my (old) original 69 Camaro Coupe Visor.....it is 18-1/2" from edge to edge on the top side (the side w/ the meausuring tape). This should answer your question.

canX11 Jul 1st, 09, 12:45 PM I just read one of your posts where you mention they are 18-1/2"...you have the correct size and they look real close to the originals'....looking at your first pic....they look like you mounted them in the wrong spot....how this is possible i have no idea because I'm sure you used the existing screw holes right? They do appear to be mounted to far away from the Pillar....sorry for the bad news...you may have a damaged headliner now:(
StrykerCamaro Jul 1st, 09, 01:18 PM Yeah...ugh...those sunvisor pivots are definitely in the wrong place.
canX11 Jul 1st, 09, 01:38 PM Jerry, I have more pics i just took of my 69's interior...this should give you an idea where everything goes...not sure if the pics help but shows you how far from Pillar and how they clip in the receiver at the Mirror...good luck, i hope you can save the headliner.

Well, there you go...it seems that 68 and 69 visors are different.....you are talking about a 68.....a difference of 1-1/4" which looiks about the distance you are off by....so you have 69 Visors.....not sure why the box said 68-69 camaro:confused:
1969ProStreetCamaro Jul 1st, 09, 05:54 PM Just had a look at my 69s sry no pics the camera is flat

My sun visors mounts are exactly the same as "Steps" describes....which brings up my question.....Does anyone have pics of original unmolested '69 coupe sun visor mounting location for comparison.
Jerry, I have more pics i just took of my 69's interior...this should give you an idea where everything goes...not sure if the pics help but shows you how far from Pillar and how they clip in the receiver at the Mirror...good luck, i hope you can save the headliner.

canX11 Jul 1st, 09, 06:17 PM David, look at my pics above....the only thing I did was change my interior from green to Black....that is the original posistion....I put repro visors in but the location is the exact same spot the original came out of....my green interior was the original interior (unmolested....before i got to it,LOL)

I pulled back the headliner to see and there is only one place to screw the base in to.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh243/jerry1258/v1.jpg
also the visor base can only mount one way as mentioned by Steps earlier

mark x22 Jul 2nd, 09, 12:18 PM From center to center of the base on my 1969 is 41 inch's. In the ricks catalog the visors are different for coupe all three years ,and all convertibles are the same .The roof brace kits are for 1967 ,1968 and one for 1969. the pictures of these kits show the sun visor hole farther inboard on the 1967,1968 .someone with a 1967 or1968 needs to check the dimension in between the mounts .
jr68 Jul 7th, 09, 08:33 AM Any of you guys with a 68 with out a headliner in yet have any pics I can comprare to ? It looks like the 69 and the 68 have different mounting points. Check out my pics above.

If you read all the posts....you have 69 Visors....someone posted the measurements of their 68' Visors and they are about an inch or more shorter than the 69 Visors....so, your problem is...you have the wrong visors.
madmax87 Jul 7th, 09, 09:14 AM Even our sponsor (Ground Up) shows different numbers for all 3 years. Vert are all the same.

Vintage 68 Jul 7th, 09, 06:05 PM Are convertible visors longer than coupe? The convertible mount into a piece that is part of the tho of the A pillar...
IIRC the convertible visors are slightly shorter and are much narrower - due to the shorter windshield ;)
jr68 Jul 7th, 09, 09:55 PM Gramps , thanks for getting them pics out ( and fast too :) ) my mounting holes sure looked like they were way too inboard,
as mentioned above they must have sent me 69 visors and have too see if "Ground up" will exchange them. I hope they do.

No problem...you should be able to exchange them, hopefully without too many issues. good luck with that....
