On a 69 Camaro BBC with power steering, 4 speed, and Hooker 2457 headers, where to attach the clutch return spring? It was on the exhaust manifold. It seems like a tight fit to try to attach it to the block?

I have heard of guys using a stainless hose clamp, wrapped to a header tube and allowing the spring fit thru one of the gear groves. I don't like the heat transfer here from the tube to the spring.

I make me a little L bracket and fastened it under the steering gear area, I used a spring with a long feed on it to attach from the bracket to the eye hole on the clutch fork. I also use a smaller spring to keep the fork and Z bar in constant tension. Worked for me over the last 30 years with headers.

I've used the clamp on the header tube on other headers, but the way the 2457's bend, that wasn't an option on my setup.

I used a short 6" piece of pre-drilled aluminum from Lowes, One end attaches to a pan bolt; the other the spring. I'll take a quick photo this weekend. So far its worked fine.

Hose clamo on the header tube has always worked for me. I have always used a little 90 degree bracket and clamped it to the header. Never have had a problem with heat affecting the spring.
