For those that have put 4th gen buckets in your 1st gen. What mods did you make to the front mounts of the passenger seat so that it would sit at the correct angle? Pix would be great.

Thanks!

I've read up on this and asked a lot of guys and they all looked at me like a deer in headlights. I am getting the impression most are just bolting them in. It just seems not too many worry about anyone sitting in the pass seat...

I have a friend that built a car for someone and he machined an alum plate that lifted the front of the seat at the mounts. He and I talked about it a lot before he did it. I was more thinking of seat extender style plates under each rail with an elevated mount for the front. He did one piece across the two front mounts.

Driver side on mine fit great and the power adjustment lets me set the angle just fine. Passenger side though is not power and I'm pretty sure its gunna sit real low if I don't do something to it (due the converter hump in the 4th gen, the feet are short).

I think I've seen some use the rails from the old seats instead -might be an option but I don't really want to mess with them.

I guess I'll fab up something and post pix when done.

Power or manual the driver side is no problem, a mod to the seat rail rear mounts and bolt it in.

I installed the passenger seat last night. I wound up making some 2 inch tall mount "extenders" for the front mounts out of some c channel. I boxed each end leaving the front of the channel open for wrench access. On one end I drilled a hole and welded a nut in, on the other just drilled a hole. So the seat mounts to my extender and the extender mounts to the floor.

Putting both seats side by side on the shop floor I found that the 4th gen seat front legs were about 3 inches higher off the ground when the back mounts were level with the ground. But in the car, 3 inches made the front of the seat sit way to high. So I eyeballed it with the driver seat and decided on 2 inches. This wound up working out just right. I then added some additional mounting tabs to the rear mounts and I was done.

With both my seats the mods can be easily undone and used again in a 4th gen should i ever want to get rid of them. -But that is not likely. Man what a difference! Should have done this a long time ago. My stockers, look great and had been reupholstered but they offer no side support and were quite bouncy. With the 4th gen seats its like driving a different car now.

Can you take some pics I would like to see how it looks. It sounds like a great way to make a improvement that could be easily reversed if needed.

Will do. I'll be taking them out early next week so I can get them reupholstered to match the stock interior. Will get some pix then.

For persons looking to put 4th gen seats in a 1st gen car here is a tip. Buy an extra driver's seat mounting base (rails) and bolt it to the passanger seat. The front mounting points do not need any alteration, the rear can be altered in the mirror image of the driver's seat rear mounts. It works great, height is perfect!

"I'll be taking them out early next week so I can get them reupholstered to match the stock interior. Will get some pix then." ----- Please do follow up on this. I'm very interested in putting 4th gen seats in my car with the vinyl standard style upholstery. I'd love to see how they look in the car with upholstery matching the original and the back seat.

Did you use a power or manual base/rails? Is the pass seat fixed in one place or does it adjust?

I figured it out, we've had this conversation before it's a 4 way manual rail... Both adjustment handles come out the front not the side so it works on either seat.

Correct DJD, they are 4 way seat rails. Worked great in my case.

Here's some pix. I wound up slicing of the factory mount of the right rear mount of the passenger seat as it was too close to the rocker to allow the seat to mount properly. As others have said I guess the best way is to get another driver side mount but this worked out fine for me.
