I have read posts on clucth adjustmet but most of them talk about the free play at the top of the pedal. My question is when the pedal is to the floor and clutch is disengaged how far up should the pedal move to full engagement. I think my clutch is engaging right off the floor.

A new disc will do this if linkage is OE. Any aftermarket items substituted, and the stroke of the clutch system would be off.

You probably don't have the required 1" free play the way you got it, it's probably too much free play!.....I'd say probably around 1 1/2"-2" off the floor for clutch engagement!.....Make sure you have that crucial free play or you'll ruin the throwout bearing and pressure plate pretty quickly!

Free play is the amount of movement the pedal makes at the top of its travel, not from the floor to when it starts to engage. Have the pedal in its relaxed position. From that point you want to be able to push the pedal about 1"-1.5" before the clutch starts to DISENGAGE.

Ditto!

About 1-1/4" of free play at top is fine by me.

And on the old stock, Tri-5 clutches it wasn't anything to see a square-cut 2x4 flat on the floor under the pedal to keep it from over centering and sucking to the floor at WOT back then.

You didn't say whether or not you had done the regular adjustment or not so I'll go ahead and post it.

Under the car, remove the return spring from the clutch fork.
Loosen the lock nut on the threaded rod that contacts the clutch fork.
Lightly push the end of the clutch fork rearward until you just feel light contact with the clutch and hold it there.
Screw the threaded rod out until it contacts the clutch fork.
From there, screw it back in (away from fork) three full turns and tighten the lock nut.
Reattach the return spring.

That should get you pretty close.
