Does anyone here know if using an adapter to use a normal BBC intake manifold on a tall deck block is reasonable or asking for trouble? I ask because contemplating purchasing an EFI made for standard BBC and the "owner" says the performance shop says can be adapted to Tall deck....of course they have a vested interest in moving this item . Thx

Been there, done that. It will be just fine.

Heck, you could probably trace the intake manifold gaskets onto a piece of the right thickness hard maple and make your own spacers out of wood and be fine!

Just remember you will need a taller distributor, whereas many tall deck intakes have a sunken distributor boss to allow a normal length distributor.

Yes, that's absolutely right. I also used an MSD "slip collar" distributor for my tall deck. It really helps you to be sure the dist gear positively engages with the oil pump.

Moroso makes the spacers - we used them on the 572 with a stock '67 Corvette L-71 3x2 intake on our "King Ray" project car; re-profiled the edges to exactly match the contour of the GM intake, and you wouldn't know they were there unless you really looked for them.

John,
Don't guys even weld them to the intake and detail them to further hide their use?

I suppose you could do that, but then you end up with an intake that only works on a tall-deck block.
:beers:
