The wife and I just put a 700r4 with a horseshoe shifter in our '67. We have a electrical problem though. We can't use the 68 console wiring harness for the neutral safety switch and console lights because there is no connection from the original chassis harness to the console. Has anyone done anything similar, and if so what was the solution?

Why don't you change the shifter so you can use a 67 console? I believe the way the console gets secured to the body of the car is completely different from 67 to 68. You will need to change the mounting locations and the harness, I believe. It seems like it would be much easier and cost effective to change the shifter, IMO.

I don't believe that will solve the solution. Was your car originally a column shift car? You will probably have to run your own wires to make the lights work or buy a new harness.

We were given a horseshoe shifter for free, so cost wasn't an issue, but there is still no electrical connection for the back up lights and neutral safety switch. The previous owner was "creative" in swapping in a TKO and decided to bypass some electrical systems. The car was originally a four speed, but the wiring coming out of the column is missing several important wires and connections. We may go have to go completely back to the drawing board with the chassis harness. I think I'm going to take it to a shop even though my wallet keeps telling me not to. :(

Why in the world are you going BACK to an auto when the car had a TKO in it? The TKO gives you the same overdrive capability and it also allows you to change the gears. IMO, much more fun than sticking it in gear and driving. Where's the fun in that? Auto's take the muscle out of the muscle car.

It's my wife's car and she doesn't feel comfortable driving a standard. You would not believe how tired I am of answering that question. You would also not believe how bad it hurt to have to take out that TKO. I have a TKO backing the 351 in my mustang and it's a great tranny. I put up a fight for months and even tried to ignore her so she would just give up and drive it as is, but to no avail.
