I am installing the cam back into my engine (1969 350) and misplaced the lifters. I am going to pickup new ones. Do I have to break in the engine at 2000 + rpms the same as breaking in a cam even though the cam already has miles on it...to break in the lifters??

Not particularly, but doesn't hurt.

I wish you luck. I would never use used cam or lifters:noway:.cams are cheap:yes:.if wipe out the cam or lifters ,now you have all the work and the money out again for parts. Richard:beers:

And don't forget the break-in grease.

I always wondered about using an old cam and new lifters. I remember reading and old article where they swap out the lifters only for a set of Rhodes lifters. I suppose it is possible but I always thought you were supposed to break them in together.

If its a roller cam..no problem and no break in reqd.If she is a flat tappet style...your rolling the dice.

I have used new lifters on used cams several times. I add EOS along with the cam lube and break it in like any flat tappet new cam. I have never had any problems at all doing this.

if you think about it,it is no different than replacing lifters on a vehicle under factory warranty...we do that all the time at work and never has there been an issue.

Thats because todays engines use roller cams..not old school flat tappet types.
