hey guys, I have a 67 that has an old ballast resistor that seems to still work fine, but it looks horrible, everything else has been painted or replaced so I want to replace it. I bought a universal ballast resistor from summit and put it on and it started to smoke when I turned ignition on. It isn't labeled in anyway for an ignition side (old one has one side labeled bat.) , so I figured maybe I had it backwards. Switched wires and same thing happened! Do I need something other than a universal one ? If so, where can I get it? Wiring harness is new AAW.

Theres nothing wrong. The "resistor" works by creating resistance in the circuit (or heat) and the smoke is the coating on the backside where the resistor goes between terminals. The smoke will stop after running awhile, and is normal...

Don't worry about it smoking!.....That's normal for a new ballast resistor, it also gets very hot so don't touch it unless you wear your welding gloves!
