Should be an easy question but never owned an auto in a 69. How have most of you installed your auto shifter (TH350), on top of the carpet or did you mount it directly onto the trans tunnel and cut the carpet to go around it.

I bolted mine right over the carpet. Much cleaner look that way, no trim cuts or snags showing.

Sounds like a plan.

So did I....the orginal, maybe because old tended to drag down from under the consol, espec on the passengers side....
So used a hole punch for the shifter bolts....stays nice and tight now.
