If you will be on the street most of the time then the Eaton might be best. If you will be spending most of the time on the strip then use the Detroit Locker.

this car will be a bit of both but probably more on the street so I guess I'll look at the eaton, whats the biggest axle spline you can run with the eaton?

33 spline I believe. That will handle around 800 lb.ft. through a 2.8 first gear with 4.11 rear. Here's a link that will show you what you need:

33 splines. If it's a drag car then you might want to look into the 22 disc clutch with 800 pound preload springs and heat treated gears. You will have to use the 9 inch Ford axle bearings with the 33 spline axles, or c clip eliminators. I recommend the Ford bearings. These require special housing ends to be welded on to the housing with a housing fixture.

If you want to stay with the 30 spline axles and you want 4 series gears then I have a very good Moroso unit with 800 pound springs and the special gears. It's got a new set of 18 disc clutches.

Is there a reason you recomend the 9" ends over c-clip eliminators,I have used c-clip elim on many of my ford rears and never had any issues. It will be a street strip car at most.I have a buddy that has a 8.5 ten bolt housing for me that I am going to use. Thanks

C clip eliminators are not designed for street use. Most of the time they leak oil on the brakes and the bearings are small. The 9 inch Ford bearings are much larger and use a OEM seal that work very well. They are much stronger and will last longer. The only problem with them is that the housing ends must be welded on with a housing fixture and the axles must be made to work with these bearings. If you are building a rear end from scratch then this is the best way to go.

yes I am building mine from scratch so that may be the way to do it then,do you carry the ends? I'm sure you can get the rest of the parts to right?how about narrowing the rear 1" per side can you still get the axles for that application. Thanks

you can use a 12 bolt or a 10 bolt (8.5) and c-clip eliminators on the street without them leaking..ive done it and so have other people.. you can run a moroso brute strengh posi unit without buying a locker, it will handle the horse power!! i would choose the moroso over the eaton like fred kinda hinted too..yes you can narrow the rear a inch and get axles or have them resized..

Yes, I have the housing ends and other parts. Narrowing it any amount is not a problem.
